First Training Day Recap

It was NO JOKE...  Saturday, April 1 was our first training day of the season, and Mother Nature wasn't quite done with us for the winter.  Heavy snow and wind in the Northern part of the state prevented several from attending.  For those that did attend, the morning was chilly, but after the snow ended, we ended up with a beautiful sunny day.  We had about 40 people who attended and there were 13 dogs in the Natural Ability field - all indicated that they will be testing their pups this year.  There were 14 dogs in the Utility field - half indicated that they are planning to test this year.  If you weren't able to attend, we hope to see you at the next training day on Saturday, April 29 at 8:00 am.  Check out our training calendar for the complete 2023 schedule.

Order your Training Birds Today!

Birds MUST BE ORDERED at least TEN day prior to training days.  Bird orders are due on or before Wednesday, April 19 for the upcoming April 29 training day.
Pigeons, pheasants, and chukars* will be available for purchase for use by NCW NAVHDA members and must be picked up by 9:00am on training days.  We cannot guarantee the availability of pigeons so please source your own if possible.

*Please note due to supply issues, chukars will only be available to those testing in June.  We have placed a limit of 1 bird for dogs running in the Natural Ability test, and 4 birds for those running in the Utility test.  Thank you for your understanding.

Additional Test added in July

NCW NAVHDA will be hosting an additional 1 day test in July for Natural Ability on Saturday, July 15.  If you are interested in registering for this test (or switching from June or August), please contact Jill Colloton.

Volunteers Needed

NCW NAVHDA has several opportunities for volunteers.  It is through our volunteers that our club is successful. 

• Training Day Lunch - bring a main course for approximately 50 people.  The club will reimburse you for any expenses.
• Test Day Volunteers - This is a great way to learn more about the tests and we will show you exactly what you need to do.  Bird planters and field marshals needed.

Presidents Notes / Recap

Our first training day of 2023 was a wildly erratic weather day.  The north woods  area had 18” of snow.  But by afternoon, we had sun.  We delayed the start time to 9am and that helped some make it to the training day.  We had a great turn out and had a great time training in the beautiful afternoon sunshine.  Lots of dogs were worked.

The next training day is Saturday, April 29th starting at 8am.  Get your birds ordered ASAP.
Unfortunately, I will miss the April 29th training day as I’ll be judging in southern CA that weekend.  We will have everything set up for a successful training day.  I will see everyone in May for training.
